Bizarre scenes unfolded in Fluminense’s 4-1 win at Nova Iguaçu on Wednesday when the club physio needed to be stretchered off the field after attempting to treat one of his players.
In the 40th minute, Flu right-back Renato went down with a hamstring injury serious enough that he needed to be replaced. However, physio Jeronimo Barreto didn’t actually reach the distressed player as he also collapsed in pain on the sidelines. According to Globo, he tore a thigh muscle in his haste to provide assistance.
Who takes care of the physio when he hits the deck? Well, apparently it’s down to the fire department, who helped Barreto while the other medics dealt with the player.
Thankfully for him and sadly for us, the fire fighters let the physio leave the field on a stretcher, rather than thrown over one of their shoulders as if escaping a burning building.
Hahaha. The commentator’s such a smartass. “He should have stretched. That dude has to be overweight.”
