Ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Goodison Park on Saturday, BBC North West Tonight reporter Stuart Flinders was talking to people in town about the derby. But when he asked one older gentleman about the 1967 edition that occurred in the fifth round of the FA Cup, the man’s eyes lit up.
“I do, I played in it,” he replied, just as surprised as his answer would make the unsuspecting Stuart Flinders. He then revealed himself to be Tommy Lawrence, goalkeeper for Liverpool from 1957-1971. He made 306 appearances for the club, and won two First Division titles (1964, 1966) and an FA Cup (1965) under legendary manager Bill Shankly.
Here’s Lawrence, nicknamed The Flying Pig, in 1967…
Sadly, Andriy Voronin’s attempts to get the reporter’s attention went unnoticed.

What a shame, sports reporter should know a face of a man who made 300 appearances for his club.
