Over the past few seasons, Anderson’s role at Manchester United was inversely proportional to his waistline: it got a lot smaller. In January, the Brazilian midfielder ended a seven-and-a-half year spell at Old Trafford with a free transfer to Internacional, but he hasn’t exactly impressed with his new club yet.

Making his debut against Cruzeiro last week, Anderson missed a late penalty that would have been a game winner.

On Tuesday evening, he started in a Copa Libertadores match against brilliantly named Bolivian side The Strongest, but had to be substituted after just 37 minutes. The 26-year-old then needed an oxygen mask as he wheezed on the bench.

To be fair, the game was held in La Paz, a city whose high altitude often causes problems for athletes not used to the thin air. However, Anderson’s struggle will do nothing to change his reputation as a man who spends more time in the canteen than on the training field.
