Manchester United’s forgotten man, Nani, scored a thunderous half-volley from distance in Sporting Lisbon’s 2-0 win against Gil Vicente. And after he did it, he dropped to his knees in tears.
Though the Portuguese winger has scored eight goals in 23 appearances while on loan at Sporting this season, it’s still be a difficult period for him. He explained this after the match, but refused to share the details. From Reuters:
“It was a goal like any other,” he told reporters. “I received the ball, saw the goal, shot and I was lucky.” “I thought about myself and everything that I have gone through,” added Nani, who was born in Cape Verde and had a tough upbringing in Lisbon after his family emigrated to Portugal. “It’s personal stuff, that nobody knows about.”
With Man United still struggling, a bit of Old Trafford redemption might be on the horizon for the 28-year-old. Certainly no one can question his passion.
They doubted you, they laughed, they criticized you, they hated you, but you’re strong and you proved em wrong. #NANI pic.twitter.com/Yh6eFoLg3a — Gizawy (@GrandeDeGea) February 22, 2015
why did you add that tweet at the end of the article?
For the picture. And because it probably sums up his thoughts in that moment.
