The second half of Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago’s final Gold Cup group stage match was magnificent. Seven goals were scored as a 2-0 lead for Mexico in the 51st minute ended as a 4-4 draw that only became more unbelievable with each passing minute.
Trinidad & Tobago made it 2-2 in the 58th minute, then took a 3-2 lead in the 67th. Andres Guardado then made it 3-3 in the 88th minute with a powerful strike from distance and Mexico were gifted with a fourth goal in the 90th minute when Kenwyne Jones deflected a corner kick into his own net.
It seemed like Mexico had the game won when the Soca Warriors prepared for a corner kick in the final seconds of injury time and their many fans in Charlotte celebrated by throwing bottles, cups, and anything else they could at a Joevin Jones, who also had green lasers dancing across his face. Overcoming the distraction, Jones put in an excellent corner kick that was headed into the net by Yohance Marshall.
Trinidad & Tobago celebrated, the match ended 4-4, and T&T finished top of Group C with Mexico in second.
T&T will now face Panama in the quarterfinals, while Mexico will have to deal with Costa Rica.
Mexico fans are just trash. Never seen ANY fan of ANY country that was more disrespectful of the beautiful game as mexico. Hope law enforcement acted on those individuals. ALL american stadiums MUST have cameras watching those corners and those fans. Corners and goal kicks are a MUST for surveillance.
Dude, almost every country in central and South America has to deal with much worse than this. Players get hit with lit flares and glass bottles and rocks. Mexican fans are civil compared to Argentinian fans.
” Never seen ANY fan of ANY country that was more disrespectful of the beautiful game as mexico. ”
Never been to Europe, have you?
