If you thought getting sacked by Chelsea for a second time and seeing the team’s uptick in form under Guus Hiddink would have humbled Jose Mourinho, you must not know who we’re talking about.

Ahead of his scheduled visit to the San Siro this weekend to see former club Inter face Sampdoria, Mourinho made it clear that his ego has not been deflated by his current situation.

He told La Stampa (via Football Italia):

“My next club? I really don’t know, but one thing is certain: I love football and I’ll return to the touchline with the same passion and ambition as always.

“Right now I have respect for every Coach and every club. I’m not looking for a club, it’s the clubs who are looking for me.”

Could that be a reference to reports that he wrote a six-page “love letter” to Manchester United? Maybe.

Mourinho was sure to say that he isn’t looking to push Roberto Mancini out of the Inter job (“I want to clarify one thing though, I won’t be in charge next season. Inter have a project, and it’s Erick Thohir and Roberto Mancini.”), but his “it’s the clubs who are looking for me” line does coincide with a notable development back in London.

Chelsea have moved to smooth over relations with Jose Mourinho by sending their former manager a memento of his success in his second spell at the club – replica versions of the Premier League and Capital One Cup trophies he won last season, as well as a letter thanking him for his achievements. The letter from chairman Bruce Buck addressed Mourinho’s many achievements at the club and reiterated the club’s belief that he would always be welcome at Stamford Bridge in the future.
