Twice a year, goths descend upon Whitby, England to celebrate all things goth with their heavily eyelinered brethren and as part of the festival, Real Gothic FC face the local side in a match known as El Gothico.
I love this film for so many reasons. It’s a community of outsiders coming together and having a good time. It’s people you wouldn’t expect to see at a football match putting their own twists on the game. It’s an all-male goth cheerleading squad called Boy Division. In short, it’s everything that makes football great.
(If you’re wondering why this even happens in Whitby, it’s because it was one of the settings for Bram Stoker’s Dracula.)
This made my whole day.
