Similar shot, very different circumstances
On May 19, 2012, Didier Drogba scored the decisive penalty of a Champions League final played in front of 62,500 people at Munich’s Allianz Arena with a shot to the bottom left corner of the net that will long live in the collective memory of Chelsea fans.
On June 18, 2017, Didier Drogba scored with a remarkably similar shot to earn a 2-2 draw for Phoenix Rising in a U.S. second-division match played in front of a few hundred people at a municipal park in Kansas City, Missouri. It was Drogba’s second goal of the match and third in two appearances for the club he co-owns.
He’s not gonna miss from there….

Swope Park Rangers goalkeeper Adrian Zendejas must have seen that shot five years ago because, unlike Manuel Neuer, he went the right way on Drogba’s shot. But he still couldn’t reach it. Maybe that will bring some solace to Neuer.
Anyway, life is weird.
