A less than comprehensive tour of New York from Pirlo
It’s been two years since Andrea Pirlo left Juventus and joined New York City FC. In that time, he’s gotten to know New York well enough to serve as tour guide when his former club arrived in town for their preseason commitments earlier this week. But this wasn’t a look at the usual sights tourists see—museums and Sex and the City filming locations—this was the Andrea Pirlo Reality Tour.
After reuniting with old pal Gigi Buffon and the rest of the Juve squad at a restaurant where Pirlo presumably just finished a three-hour, al fresco lunch, he took them on a walk to Chelsea Market, where he does his food shopping. There, they ate some black and white cookies (“the typical New York biscuits…because of Juventus,” Pirlo jokes) and signed some autographs. Then it was up to the High Line for a kickabout with a guy in a Barcelona shirt, which surely didn’t bring back any painful memories of the 2015 Champions League final.
And that was apparently the end of the tour. No Statue of Liberty. No Cental Park. Just a high-end market and a trendy walkway. This is Pirlo’s New York.
