DTotD: Didier Drogba pulls goalkeeper’s leg, gets meme’d

Didier Drogba has been showing his MLS opposition who’s boss with 12 goals in 13 matches since joining the league, but in Sunday’s playoff game against Columbus, he showed goalkeeper Steve Clark what happens when you stop him from scoring. You get your leg pulled.

Clark had the ball at his feet at the edge of the box when Drogba saw an opportunity to try and make a tackle and strip him of it, but Clark got the pass off just in time and Drogba took him down, then pulled his leg as he tried to get back up. Because…reasons.

Drogba was shown a yellow card and Montreal went on to win the first leg of the tie 2-1. Our friends at Howler Magazine, meanwhile, got busy with photoshop…

DTotD: Carlos Tevez gets launched into space

Carlos Tevez took a heavy challenge from Gustavo Gomez late in Boca Juniors’ Copa Argentina match at Lanus. Tevez scored Boca’s first goal in what would be a 2-0 win and in the 80th minute, Gomez made him pay for it with this tackle from behind, earning himself a red card and giving Tevez a free trip to the moon.

Though his leg generated enough wind power to fuel all of Buenos Aires for the rest of the night, Tevez was able to finish out the match.

DTotD: Brazilian U-20 match ends in kick fighting and 11 red cards

A U-20 match in Brazil between Sertaozinho and Flamengo de Guarulhos devolved into a giant kick fighting battle after the final whistle, resulting in 11 red cards (six for Sertaozinho and five for Flamengo).

According to Globo, the referee’s report stated that the fight began when Sertaozinho’s coach shoved a Flamengo player and Flamengo claimed that fans jumped the fence to attack their players, as did ball boys and opposing coaches. They also said that their bus was stoned as they embarked on their journey home.

If there’s one takeaway from this, it’s that these U-20 squads are definitely fighting at a senior team level.

DTotD: Velez Sarsfield player gives opponent a rectal exam during match

Perhaps inspired by Gonzalo Jara’s violation of Edinson Cavani during Copa America, Velez Sarsfield defender Emiliano Amor got a little too personal with Lanus’ Oscar Benitez during a Copa Argentina match.

After lightly punching Benitez in the kidney several times, Amor gripped him like a bowling ball.

The surprise prostate pinch went unpunished, but Lanus went on to advance on penalties.

DTotD: Gerard Pique kicks a toy ball at Shakira’s chest

Shakira posted this video to Twitter as confirmation that living with Gerard Pique is exactly as dangerous as you think it is. But to be fair, nine out of the 10 times he does this, the ball probably bounces off the wall and smacks him in the face. In other words, Shakira probably has to deal with her husband’s self-inflicted bleeding a lot.
