Andrea Pirlo is a wizard and he has the beard to prove it. We all know this. One of his mystical powers is the ability to predict the future — particularly what direction opposing players will shoot from the penalty spot or free kicks. Sadly, NYCFC goalkeeper Josh Saunders is a doubter of Pirlo’s powers and he paid for it during their 4-3 win over the Chicago Fire to start the new MLS season.

U.S. unveil new crest, which is not a bootleg Olympic team logo
The flying ball that has been a part of the USSF crest since 1993 is no more. The federation has now unveiled a new, simpler look that definitely is not inspired by knock-off U.S. Olympic team merchandise sold in dollar stores across the country.
LA Galaxy delay CONCACAF Champions League trip so Steven Gerrard can watch Liverpool cup final
Steven Gerrard, a man who still looks weird in a kit other than Liverpool’s, was afraid his LA Galaxy commitments would prevent him from watching Liverpool face Man City in the Capital One Cup final on Sunday. But Galaxy coach Bruce Arena came to the rescue by rearranging the whole club’s schedule to accommodate Gerrard’s wish.

If you’ve been wondering what former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been up to since Jurgen Klopp presumably wised up and stopped going ’round to his house for advice, the answer is getting engaged in the most touristy and unromantic way possible.
MLS All-Star opponent decided with bad acting
And the 2016 @ATT #MLSAllStar opponent is… https://t.co/r5hdaKxc0U
— Major League Soccer (@MLS) February 11, 2016
MLS announced that their All-Stars will face Arsenal this summer and to coincide with the news, the league put out a video showing how the fixture came together starring a collection of MLS and Arsenal players.
Highlights include:
-A dig at Spurs (who lost 2-1 to the All-Stars last summer)
-Kaka requesting that Mesut Özil be reminded that he owes him dinner
-Thierry Henry’s eyebrows
-Poor phone conversation synching
-Arsene Wenger’s climactic cameo
No one here is going to win an award for their acting ability (not even a fourth-place trophy), but that’s part of what makes it enjoyable. Good fun.
Watch this Christen Press goal on a loop and live a happy life
The U.S. women’s team opened their Olympic qualifying campaign with a 5-0 win against Costa Rica and demonstrated that winning the World Cup last summer has only made them stronger.
The Columbus Crew unveil MLS’s ugliest kit for 2016
Remember a couple hours ago when I implied that NYCFC’s new kit wasn’t all that good looking? Well, I take it back. It’s gorgeous compared to the abomination the Columbus Crew just unveiled.
David Villa, Andrea Pirlo, and Poku surpise NYCFC fans with new shirt
NYCFC’s new away shirt isn’t Adidas’ best effort by any means, but the video the club put together to introduce it is rather well done. They set up three fans to think they were part of a documentary, but while filming each of them at work, they had an NYCFC player surprise them with an unannounced visit.
MLS finds a way to even make their shirts confusing
MLS has an endless supply of convoluted and constantly changing rules and mechanisms, but their shirts have remained largely straight forward. They’re all made by the same company. They have sleeves. Various colors. The usual shirt stuff.
In other words, their shirts were completely out of sync with how the league operates. So they’ve changed that.

Of all the candidates in the 2016 U.S. presidential race, Donald Trump might be the last one you would expect to have a long history with the world’s game.
