Injuries are a common occurrence in football, but some are more embarrassing than others. When those embarrassing injuries happen, the player involved would likely prefer if their club didn’t call attention to the details of how they got hurt, but Bayer Leverkusen doesn’t care about that.

RB Leipzig striker’s shot boomerangs off a defender and hits him in the face
This is just spectacular. Red Bull Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer tried to take a shot off the rebound in a 2. Bundesliga match against Nürnburg, but the ball ricocheted off a defender and hit him in the face, sending him to the ground.
Elsewhere, in Bochum’s 5-0 win over Greuther Fürth, a defender deflection worked to Terrazzino’s advantage, setting up a terrible attempt to clear the ball off the goal line…
Stefan Kiessling makes a kid cry by giving him his shirt
Stefan Kiessling has gone and done it. He spotted a kid holding a sign asking him for his shirt and he actually fulfilled the request after Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-1 win against Hoffenheim.
Paderborn goalkeeper gets obliterated by shot to the face
Down 1-0 to Bayer Leverkusen in the 79th minute, Paderborn goalkeeper Lukas Kruse wasn’t having a great day, but it got a whole lot worse when he was laid out by a Stefan Kiessling shot to the face. The close-range shot appeared to take a deflection off a defender’s boot, leaving Kruse unable to adjust in time and turning the event into something out of a Call of Duty game.
Kruse was flat on his back for a bit, but did get back up and finish out the match. Sadly, having a face that felt like it was stung by a thousand bees didn’t help his cause and Bayer’s Son Heung-Min went on to score twice before the final whistle, giving Bayer a 3-0 win.
