Louis van Gaal nearly blinds himself during Man United win over Shrewsbury

Even in the fleeting moments when things go right for Manchester United this season, they still hold nuggets of embarrassment for Louis van Gaal. While attempting to take a sip of water during Man United’s 3-0 win over Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup, Van Gaal forgot that he also had a pencil in his hand and nearly stabbed himself in the eye with it.

Momentarily stunned by the sneaky self-attack, Van Gaal rubbed his face to make sure he didn’t mark himself up. Naturally, the whole incident was caught on camera and broadcast to everyone watching the match at home.

I know Man United have been tough to watch this season, but this isn’t the answer, Louis. You’re going to need both your eyes to find the door on your way out.

West Brom player hit in the face with coin thrown by own fans

Championship side Reading came from behind to beat West Brom 3-1 in the FA Cup quarterfinals, angering the Baggies fans who made the trip. After the match, West Brom vice-captain Chris Brunt tried to make amends for the loss by moving to give his shirt to someone in the crowd, but as he took it off, he was struck by a coin thrown from the away end.

Micah Richards successfully defuses confrontation with angry Villa fans

Aston Villa only managed a 1-1 draw with League Two’s Wycombe Wanderers in the third round of the FA Cup, forcing a replay and extending their winless streak to 10 matches.

This was the last straw for many Villa fans, who have watched their club settle at the bottom of the Premier League table and look completely rudderless despite a managerial change in early November. So the group that traveled to Adams Park expressed their fury to the players as they boarded the bus home after this latest disappointment.

Anfield Cat’s cousin invades Everton FA Cup match

In 2012, there was Anfield cat: a feline that rose to international fame by invading the pitch during a Premier League match between Liverpool and Spurs. It happened again at Anfield in 2014 (and previously way back in 1964), but now we have evidence that there is also an Everton following amongst the cats of Merseyside, as well.

During Everton’s FA Cup third round match against Dagenham and Redbridge, a cat invaded the pitch and evaded Everton keeper Joel Robles’ attempt to capture it.

Jurgen Klopp conducts pre-match interview in cramped Exeter tea room

Liverpool visited League Two side Exeter City in the third round of the FA Cup and like Liverpool players’ hamstrings these days, the accommodations were tight. So tight, in fact, that Jurgen Klopp had to give his pre-match interview in the tea room, giving us the delightful image above.

At the end of the discussion on his side’s injury problems and rag-tag starting XI (look at these squad numbers!), Klopp lamented the fact that there was no cup with his name on it.

Aston Villa’s best FA Cup final moment: the decision to have booze delivered to the dressing room win or lose

Arsenal dominated Aston Villa in the FA Cup final, winning 4-0 to lift the trophy for a record 12th time. Though Villa were simply outgunned (puns!) from the start, they put in a dismal performance that made one pre-match decision their best of the day.

According to the day’s official running order, which was shared on Twitter by BBC commentator Guy Mowbray, Villa chose to have beer (eight crates) and champagne delivered to their dressing room after the match win or lose. Arsenal, meanwhile, opted to have their booze shipment sent to the team bus only if they won and the referees had a modest haul of 15 beers sent their way.

Police officer has a kick around with young Aston Villa fans before FA Cup semifinal

It appears that even the police can’t resist The Magic of The FA Cup as one officer took part in a kick around with a few kids outside Wembley before the semifinal between Liverpool and Aston Villa on Sunday.

Onlookers gave her a cheer and sang “sign her up, sign her up!”

Hopefully distracting people with a demonstration of footy skills catches on as a means of keeping the peace. The guy who filmed this should have been arrested for not doing so in landscape mode, though.
