Peterborough player passes to similarly dressed steward

A different type of kit clash

During Peterborough’s match against Northampton Town in League One on Saturday, defender Michael Bostwick spotted an unmarked teammate and fizzed a pass his way. The only problem: it wasn’t a teammate. It was a steward, dressed in a similar shade of yellow to the Posh, walking along the touchline.

The steward had no idea the ball was coming his way and kept right on walking as the ball boy snatched it up. Possession went to Northampton Town, but Peterborough ended up with a 1–0 win when Chris Forrester, who definitely is not a steward, scored during stoppage time.

So if you want to confuse your opponents, dress up your stewards in similar colors and have them sprint up and down the sides of the pitch.

Rochdale striker Calvin Andrew has been given a 12-match ban—one of the longest in Football League history—for elbowing an opponent during his side’s 1–0 win over Oldham in League One. The incident occurred away from the ball and was not seen by the officials.

According to The FA, “the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply would be clearly insufficient,” so Andrew was given far more than the usual three-match ban for violent conduct.

Andrew’s ban matches Joey Barton’s for kicking Sergio Aguero in 2012. Only Eric Cantona’s nine-month ban for kicking a Crystal Palace fan and Rio Ferdinand’s eight-month ban for missing a drug test have been longer.

Sky Sports’ Iain Dowie doesn’t know how many three is

Former QPR and Hull manager Iain Dowie now serves as a commentator for Sky Sports News and was tasked with reporting from Chesterfield’s League One match against Colchester United on Tuesday. When he announced that Chesterfield had made it 3-0, he revealed his personal struggle with holding up the proper number of fingers by showing four of them.

Suddenly, Dowie’s modest record as a football manager is all the more impressive.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas converts penalty by boring goalkeeper to death

Bristol City beat Yeovil Town 2-1 on Friday and the goal that proved to be the winner was an excruciating one for brilliantly named Yeovil keeper Jed Steer. Bristol City won a penalty in the 64th minute and Arsenal youth product Jay Emmanuel-Thomas stepped up to the spot just six minutes after entering the match. He then took quite possibly the slowest run-up of all time, prompting Steer to dive a bit too soon and the wrong way once he finally took the shot.

Have you ever had something bad seem like it was happening in slow motion? Well, for Jed Steer that was more than just a feeling.
