Louis van Gaal is just about finished with his first season at Man United. It started off terribly and, for a time, looked like he might go the way of David Moyes. But he got the club back into the Champions League and he’s ready to celebrate that. Perhaps a little too much.

Wayne Rooney’s youngest son scores at Old Trafford, copies Cristiano Ronaldo’s free kick routine
Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal marked their final home match of the season, so when it was over, the players’ families came out onto the pitch, as they do.
This gave Wayne Rooney’s youngest son, Klay, a chance to show off his Cristiano Ronaldo impression, which he seems to have perfected.

In a match that featured Chris Smalling as captain of Manchester United, Phil Jones’ golden retriever on an icy pond method of defending was the oddest thing to happen during the first half of Man United v Arsenal. Hilarious and ultimately somehow effective, but still odd.
DT programming note and recommendations
I’m going to be away for a couple of days (I’m undergoing a cosmetic surgical procedure that will make me look like Sepp Blatter so I can overthrow FIFA from within). With no DT posts to peruse, I have some suggestions on how you can best spend your time during this brief interruption of service.

They did it in emphatic fashion, too — winning 4-2 to go four points clear of fourth-place City. It was the type of result that could mark a definitive shift in the two clubs’ fortunes for years come, but what if it continued?
Wayne Rooney retires boxing celebration because his son mimicked it at school
Wayne Rooney provided the season’s most talked about goal celebration when he re-enacted getting knocked down by Phil Bardsley in his kitchen after scoring against Spurs. Now the Man United and England captain says he won’t be throwing anymore celebratory punches on the pitch since it’s proved a bad influence on his oldest son, five-year-old Kai.
Liverpool fans had to hold Mario Balotelli back from a confrontation with Chris Smalling
In the aftermath of Steven Gerrard’s stomp and go performance in Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Man United, Mario “I do what I want” Balotelli entered the match and promptly earned a yellow card himself. A bit later, the Italian striker got into a tussle with Chris Smalling by the touchline and, in order to prevent him from suffering a similar fate to Gerrard, several Liverpool fans held Mario back from charging at his opponent.
