DTotD: Beijing Guoan player sent off for stomping on opponent’s chest

Stomping on someone’s chest is traditionally frowned upon in most human endeavors, yet Beijing Guoan’s Erton Fejzullahu still seemed rather surprised after getting sent off for doing just that in a match against Brisbane Roar.

After Brisbane’s Adam Sarota fell to the ground while trying to keep Fejzullahu from getting to the ball, the Beijing player attempted to take a shortcut over Sarota’s vital organs in reaching his desired destination. But the referee didn’t appreciate this route and pulled out a red card.

Non-league player, Southampton steward bring body slams to football

On Saturday, a Conference North match between Worcester City and Stockport County devolved into backyard wrestling when former Pakistan international Shabir Khan body slammed Charlie Russell in response to a reckless challenge. Khan was shown a red card for the slam and Russell was shown a yellow for the tackle. But this was only the beginning of the English football’s tribute weekend to the WWE, though.

Brazil U-20 time waster does terrible job of faking injury after getting sent off

In the final minutes of Brazil’s Sul-Americano U-20 match against Uruguay, Brazilian defender Wallace proved he is a terrible actor but excellent time waster.

The Braga center back, who is currently on loan at Monaco, was sent off after a late challenge. As he casually strolled off the pitch, he realized that Uruguay would have an advantage in the remaining seconds of the game and decided it was his duty to delay that inevitability as long as he possibly could. So, he stopped walking and laid down.

Standard Liege supporters welcome back their Judas, Steven Defour, with decapitation tifo

Belgium international Steven Defour spent five years with Standard Liege, serving as the club’s captain for all but his first season with the club. He then spent three seasons with Porto, but returned to his homeland this season with Anderlecht — Standard’s fiercest rivals.

This did not go over so hot with his old club’s supporters. So when Defour returned to the Maurice Dufrasne Stadium wearing the wrong colors, the fans greeted him with a giant banner featuring a Jason Vorhees type holding a blood splattered machete in one hand and Defour’s severed head in the other, along with the words “RED OR DEAD.” It was subtle, but the message seemed to be that Defour is now dead to them.

Gervinho throws a tantrum after getting sent off for slapping a dude in the head

Gervinho had a complete and total meltdown during Ivory Coast’s African Cup of Nations match against Guinea. It began with him slapping Naby Keita in the head for supposedly stepping on his foot and when the referee showed the Roma striker a red card for his ill-advised retaliation, he completely lost his mind and threw a tantrum worthy of a two-year-old.

This all played out in the 58th minute with the Ivory Coast down 1-0, but being reduced to 10 men didn’t stop them from scoring an equalizer in the 72nd minute. Not sure if that will make Gervinho feel better or worse, though.
