Player causes own goal by hugging goalkeeper after penalty save
When celebrations go wrong
When your goalkeeper saves a penalty, it’s only natural to want to hug them, but a player in the Turkish second division learned the hard way that hugging the keeper while they’re holding the ball can have disastrous results.
Just watch…
The keeper made the save look easy enough, but when his teammate jumped on him as soon as he got up, it jarred the ball loose and into the net.
Now, I’ve seen a lot of own goals in my time, but own goal by hug is something new to me. And this is how a team-wide ban on hugs was born.
Fenerbahce selling shirts with upside down name and number for bicycle kick specialist Moussa Sow
A clever tribute to a scorer of spectacular goals
Fenerbahce’s Moussa Sow is making a habit of scoring overhead kicks.
He did it against Manchester United in the Europa League earlier this month…

And he did it Sunday on his way to a hat trick against Rizespor…
These were just two of the more recent examples of his gravity defying methods of scoring. It’s become such a familiar occurrence that Fenerbahce’s club shop has started printing shirts with Sow’s name and number upside down since he spends so much time in that position.
Either that, or the person manning the shirt printer came up with the best cover story for making a mistake ever.
Trabzonspor fan attacks assistant referee with team down 4-0
Horrible scenes in Turkey as an angry Trabzonspor fan attacks the assistant referee yesterday

With his team down 4-0 to Fenerbahce and just a bit of injury time left to play, a Trabzonspor fan decided to invade the pitch and attack an assistant referee. Because clearly an assistant referee was the true puppet master behind Trabzonspor’s horrible performance.
Nike launches new home and away kits for U.S., England, France, Brazil, and more
Nike unveiled the new home and away kits for nine national teams at day two of their Innovation for Everybody event in New York City, including the first to carry the U.S.’s new crest.
Trabzonspor player sent off for showing red card to referee who sent off his teammates
When you want to fully express how much you disagree with someone, you have to be sure you’re speaking their language so there is absolutely no chance of misinterpretation. With that in mind, Trabzonspor’s Salih Dursun picked up the referee’s red card after it was used to notify teammate Luis Cavanda that he had been the third(!) Trabzonspor player sent off and attempted to send the referee off, as well.

Having successfully proven their dominance over football in England, the world’s cats are now aiming to extend their influence to other countries.
A member of the Feline Football Rebellion (FFR) made an appearance during Fenerbahce’s match against Kayserispor on Saturday. It slowly walked in front of the Fener bench (the Fenerbenhce?), staring down the players, who were all smart enough to not make any sudden movements as it passed by.
Fenerbahce went on to win 1-0 in extra time thanks to a 113th minute goal from Diego, putting them in the quarterfinals of the Turkish Cup.
DTotD: Turkish player tackles opponent, then viciously kicks him in the head
With only a few days left in December, an amateur footballer in Turkey is making a bid for the nastiest display in a match this year with this vile tackle and head kick combo.
He starts by sweeping his opponent’s legs from behind — and that alone was enough for the referee to show him a red card. Perhaps realizing that he had nothing left to lose, he then went 50 steps further and savagely kicked his downed opponent in the head.
According to the Daily Mail, the victim needed nine stitches to his lip, but other than that was OK. Which is pretty amazing.
This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
Arda Turan sings (terribly) on The Voice in Turkey
The winter break affords footballers the opportunity to do things away from the game for once. So Atletico Madrid’s Arda Turan went home to Turkey to try and make it as a singer (kind of) on The Voice.
For those unfamiliar with the show, the judges all start with their chairs turned away from the stage, then the contestant walks out and sings. If the judges like what they hear, they turn their chairs around to see the person singing and fill them with false hope that makes their inevitable failure to become the next Right Said Fred.
So when Turan came out, he was given a rousing ovation that piqued that judges interest. And even though his singing sounded like a labrador trying to cough up a cigarette factory, the judges still turned their chairs around just to see who the presumably special guest was.
From there, everyone had a bit of fun, but the lesson of the day is that Arda Turan probably isn’t going to leave Atletico to become the next Dion Dublin anytime soon.
